I chose to bring this exhibition to Denver International Airport because it is a place defined by motion: arrivals, departures, and the countless in-between moments of travel. It struck him that this constant movement offers a powerful lens through which to encounter Indigenous art, art that has too often been framed as belonging only to the past, to fixed geographies, to static images in textbooks and museum dioramas.

The truth is far richer. Indigenous peoples have always been in motion. Historically, they migrated with the seasons, following ceremonial cycles, carrying knowledge and language across generations and great distances. Today they are relocating to cities and towns throughout their great lands, and this movement is not a disruption of Indigenous life; it is central to it, and has been for millennia, long before airports or highways existed.

The artists gathered here work across painting, performance, sculpture, textiles, and mixed media, and each brings a distinct relationship to land, memory, and community. Together, their work resists any single story about what it means to be Indigenous today. Instead, visitors will find personal and tribal histories held alongside visions of the future, proof that Indigenous presence is not something to look back on, but something actively, powerfully unfolding in the present.

Whether beginning a journey or ending one, he hopes these works interrupt travelers' rush, even briefly, and offer a moment of connection to the land they're flying over and the communities who have always called it home.
